WHAT TO EXPECT IN
ART/ART TECH AT SPCS
The Art Program and Curriculum at Saint Peter Catholic School is nothing short of outstanding. Our art teacher, Mr. Bell, connects what students create in art class to what they learn in other classes. This interdisciplinary approach means that while your student is learning about cell make-up in science class, they’re reinforcing that knowledge by making cell pillows in art class. Or as your student is learning math skills, they’re also putting them into practice through Computer-Aided Design (CAD) creations and our Makerbot 3D Printer.
Our middle school students also get to participate in Fine Art classes, where they explore creative expression through photography, acting, dance, and more.
SPECIFIC SKILLS
Students at Saint Peter begin to learn the basics of computer-aided design (CAD) in third grade art class. Middle school students may choose CAD work as their emphasis in art class.
Computer-aided design with Sketch Up is a conceptual extension of the geometry-based sculptures that students create in the primary and intermediate grades at our school.
In addition to robotics and Computer Aided Design, students also learn more traditional art forms, including drawing and painting.
Our main focus is on STREAM learning — integrating the science, technology, engineering, and math skills the students are developing in other classes with art. You can view Mr. Bell’s presentation on his approach to STREAM learning at SPCS to the Diocesan Teacher Conference here.
