WHAT TO EXPECT IN

THE LIBRARY AT SPCS

Welcome to the N.G. & Manzer Saad Library Media Center! We strive to provide a friendly and nurturing atmosphere conducive to academic study, educational browsing, and independent reading.

All students, faculty, administrators, and staff are welcome to check out library materials using the library’s Alexandria Researcher catalog.

PreK-5th grade students visit the library weekly during scheduled classes and may return at other times with permission of their teacher. Middle School students may visit throughout the school day as scheduling permits. Teachers may schedule library time in order for their classes to conduct research and prepare projects.

FINDING BOOKS

AT THE LIBRARY

Alexandria is the library software that we use at St. Peter. You can search our catalog for books by title, author or subject  by clicking the button below. You can also put a book on hold.

Accelerated Reader Program
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers and librarians manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) Accelerated Reader gives children, teachers, and librarians feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child find books on their level, set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.

SPECIAL EVENTS

AT THE LIBRARY

There’s always something happening at the SPCS Library! Our librarians assist with the Battle of the Books club, host regular contests in the library to build excitement about books, and of course organize the Scholastic Book Fair! All proceeds from our Book Fairs are used to purchase books and materials for our Library Media Center.
