WHAT TO EXPECT IN
FOURTH GRADE AT SPCS
Fourth graders at St. Peter Catholic School reach a big milestone — they become the “older” partners in our prayer partner program! Academically, our Fourth Grade students are challenged with more complex aspects of our core subjects, and we are continually impressed with their growth at this age. What an honor to journey with them as they begin to bridge the gap between childhood and adolescence!
FOURTH GRADE MATH
Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade learn math using Savvas Experience Math.
Some Fourth Grade skills include:
- Working with fractions and decimals
- Solve problems involving measurement
- Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit algorithms
- Understand concepts of angles and measure angles
FOURTH GRADE READING, ENGLISH, AND SPELLING
Fourth graders continue to focus on using story elements to understand a story. Stories are read in class, and comprehension and vocabulary are tested. Novels are read aloud to the class each day.
Students will work to read 500 pages or more each quarter of the school year. We also use the Accelerated Reading program to help students strengthen their reading skills and develop of love of reading. Our library is home to 15,000 titles, and our librarians are skilled at helping students find books interesting to them.
FOURTH GRADE RELIGION
Celebrating our faith is integrated into everything we do at Saint Peter Catholic School. Religion is taught by Mrs. Harris for 30 minutes four days a week. However, all of our teachers keep Jesus at the center of their classroom.
In Religion Class, Fourth Grade students will:
- Grow in faith
- Learn stories from the Bible, understand God’s laws, serve Jesus and others, learn about the saints, pray the Rosary, and participate in Mass.
- Have PreK prayer partners and attend weekly Mass with them
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Students in Fourth Grade have outdoor recess each morning and afternoon. We also supplement learning through special projects and field trips.
We also have several celebrations through the year, including a Christmas party, Valentine’s Day Party, and End of the Year Party. Other activities the students get to enjoy include service projects, the Scholastic Book Fair in the fall and spring, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Catholic Schools Week, Spirit Week in February, and Field Day in May.
