SPANISH

Being bilingual is more than just an excellent skill to have; it also fosters an appreciation for cultures besides one’s own and enhances overall language understanding and communication!

WHAT TO EXPECT IN

SPANISH CLASS AT SPCS

Students begin taking Spanish classes in Fifth Grade at Saint Peter Catholic School, and the instruction continues through Eighth Grade. Many of our graduates are able to place into higher level Spanish classes in high school because of the high quality instruction they receive at Saint Peter.

Fifth Grade
Fifth grade students have Spanish class twice a week. In addition to laying the foundations of this foreign language, students will study and celebrate cultural traditions and Hispanic holidays.

Sixth Grade
Sixth graders continue to build on their knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with class three times a week.

Seventh Grade
Seventh graders take Spanish 1A, which is the material from the first semester of High School Spanish 1. They will have class five times a week. The emphasis during this seventh grade year is writing in Spanish.

Eighth Grade
Eighth graders take Spanish 1B, which is the material from the second semester of High School Spanish 1. They will have class five times a week. The emphasis during this eighth grade year is speaking in Spanish.

OBTAINING HIGH SCHOOL

CREDITS

At the conclusion of the school year, all eighth graders will take the AAPPL Exam. Placement on the AAPPL Exam will determine the number of high school credits for Spanish that a student receives as an eighth grader.

The vast majority of St. Peter eighth graders receive credit for at least Spanish 1, and several receive credit for Spanish 2 as well.
